What is the difference between injection-moulded and extruded synthetic closures?
Injection Moulded
- Individually moulded to ensure consistency.
- Closure is formed in one process.
- Incorporates a chamfer for easy insertion/re-insertion.
- The ends are sealed for ultimate wine protection.
Extruded
- Requires up to 3 stages of manufacture – extrusion, cutting and chamfering.
- Non-chamfered product is difficult to re-insert into the bottle and can cause ‘lipping’ during bottling.
- Chamfering is an optional and additional process that adds cost and may create concerns with dust.
- Open foam structure is in contact with the wine.
